The Community Engagement Division includes the Crime Prevention Team and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Various functions of the division includes:
- Strengthening relationships between the El Segundo Police Department and the public
- Disseminating statistical data
- Providing crime prevention techniques and tips
- Conducting disaster preparedness training
School Resource Officers
El Segundo Police Department’s School Resource Officers are sworn law enforcement officers responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools. Both officers work closely with administrators in an effort to create a safer environment for both students and staff. The responsibilities of SROs include:
- Responding to calls for service
- Documenting incidents
- Mentoring the students
- Conducting presentations on youth-related issues
Community Lead Officers
The El Segundo Police Department’s Community Lead Officers play a critical role in the department's approach to reducing crime by strengthening community relationships and trust. These officers partner with community and civic organizations, neighborhood watch groups, local businesses, and concerned citizens to develop and implement solutions to challenges that arise within the city.
El Segundo Volunteer Program
The El Segundo Volunteer Program is made up of dedicated men and women who share their diversity of skills, abilities, education and life experiences with the El Segundo Police Department and our community. We believe most effective law enforcement efforts are collaborative partnerships between police and community members. Our volunteers perform a wide variety of duties throughout the department, enabling our paid personnel to concentrate on specialized tasks and better manage their workflow.
Crime Prevention Analyst
The El Segundo Police Department Crime Prevention Analyst is responsible for establishing, managing and maintaining programs and initiatives to prevent and reduce crime. Initiatives include working closely with neighborhood watch groups and providing training and presentations. The analyst represents the El Segundo Police Department at community events, manages our victim’s assistance program and is a primary member of our social media team.
The El Segundo Police Department's Crime Analyst is certified by California Department of Justice as a Crime and Intelligence Analyst that researches and analyzes crime data utilizing that information to forecast activity, identify hot spot areas and crime trends. She prepares and disseminates strategic and tactical intel product working closely with Watch Commanders and Patrol. She assists the Investigative Bureau by performing in-depth intel analysis that provides technical support with cases in order to associate crimes and identify suspects through crime bulletins and reports. She represents the El Segundo Police Department at monthly and quarterly crime analyst meetings sharing information, collaborating and networking with local and outside police agencies.
