The El Segundo Police Department has cancelled all Police Department community outreach events until further notice. The action is taken as a precaution to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The City of El Segundo continues to cooperate with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and the El Segundo Unified School District to respond to the spread of the novel coronavirus in Los Angeles County. In 2018, SB978 was signed into law, taking effect on January 1, 2020. In essence, the law requires "each local law enforcement agency" (State agencies and private presenters are exempt), to conspicuously post on their internet websites all current standards, policies, operating procedures and "education and training materials" if they would otherwise be available to the public, if a request were made pursuant to the California Public Records Act (CPRA) Government Code Section 6250 et. seq.
