El Segundo Police Department patch with airplane, smoke stacks, house and stars The El Segundo Police Department's shoulder patch highlights the unique attributes of the City. The airplane represents our proximity to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The smoke stacks represent the Chevron Refinery established in 1903 that was Chevron's second on the West Coast, hence our name, El Segundo. The house reflects the importance of our residential community and strong family values. The blue brings to life the Pacific Ocean to illustrate our fine beach and beautiful Southern California climate. The four gold stars represent the El Segundo Police Officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. The patch represents respect, integrity, service and excellence we feel are inherent in our Department.  Our mission is to provide a safe and secure community while treating all people with dignity and respect.
